30 Candles on the Cake. 237 Miracles of Life.
This year, the National Transplant Bureau under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter – NTB) celebrates its 30th anniversary. On 16 January 1996, the then Minister of Health, Antanas Vinkus, signed Order No. 43 establishing the National Organ Transplant Bureau.
Marking this milestone, NTB has chosen to celebrate throughout the year by expressing gratitude, fostering collaboration, and encouraging everyone to help spread the message of organ donation and transplantation – every day, in every possible way. Today, we are pleased to present an overview of the 2025 results.
In 2025, thanks to organ donation and transplantation, 237 people received the life-changing call for an organ transplant – 151 in Lithuania and 86 in other European countries. During the year, 158 potential donors were identified, of whom 83 became effective organ donors.
According to the 2024 data, Lithuania ranks among the leading countries in organ donation, placing 9th in the European Union and 11th globally among 63 countries in terms of effective organ donors per million population.
